On January 22 2009 at the Aeropole of Charleroi, the IMI organized an Academic Ceremony entitled «The Institute for Medical Immunology, a public-private partnership".

Ihe IMI , whose the funding has been renewed in summer 2008 for 2 years, is  model of  a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with a support of 50% from the Walloon Region, of 25% from the ULB and of 25 % from GlaxoSmithkline Biologicals. Aiming to foster the relationships between the academic researchers and the Industry, these so called "PPP" have started to be launched in Europe. It is expected, as in the United States, that theses partnerships will facilitate and encourage the transfer from the invention to the innovation and from the scientific discovery to the economic valorization.

This Academic Ceremony has been openned with the TV allocution of the President of European Commission , Jose Manuel BARROSO.
