Paul Magnette, the Federal Minister of Climate and Energy, visited the Biopole Charleroi on Tuesday 18 November. On this occasion, Jean-Louis Vanherweghem, President of the ULB's Administration Council and of the Biopole ULB Chaleroi redrawed "the success story" of the Biopole from its creation in 1999 until now. The Biopole has known in a few years an impressive growth: it gathers today more than 500 persons working as researchers or in industries. The Biopole is from now on a real development vector for the region, playing a key role for Charleroi's image and redeployment. Michel Goldman presented to the Minister the new challenges of the Wallonia-Bruxelles University Academia: the ULB and its partners are mobilizing the European Structural Funds to reinforce research, innovation and formation in the biomedical sector. Finally, Bruno André, initiator of the Formation Projects "Hainaut-Biomed" talked about the continuous formation activity that ULB will launch as soon as January 2009 in the field of sciences and biomedical techniques.
