January 2008 - Two new post-doctoral scientists join IMI
Two post-doctoral scientists recently joined IMI to strengthen activities around inflammatory responses and their regulation.

Stéphane Temmerman, PhD, joined the Institute for Medical Immunology in January 2008.  He will conduct as principal investigator a research project aiming at the development of new strategies to generate tolerogenic immune cells and the identification of novel cell signaling intermediates.  Stéphane Temmerman begins his research career at the ULB under the mentorship of Françoise Mascart, MD, PhD.  In 2004, he received a PhD degree for his work on a candidate antigen for a new vaccine against tuberculosis.  His discovery on the critical role of antigen methylation for immune recognition was published in Nature Medicine.  He was then appointed as post-doctoral fellow in the group of Ashish Jain at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, USA) where he gained expertise in molecular signaling and identified a new genetic defect responsible for primary immune deficiency in humans.

Louis-Marie Charbonnier, PhD, joined IMI in February 2008 as post-doctoral fellow in the group of Alain Le Moine, MD-PhD.  Louis-Marie Charbonnier recently graduated as PhD from the University of Montpellier after completion of his research studies on atypical regulatory cells in a mouse model of rheumatoid arthritis.  At IMI, Louis Marie Charbonnier will collaborate with Benoît Vokaer under the supervision of Alain-Le Moine to investigate the role interleukin 17 in allograft rejection.
