The growing incidence of allergic disorders such as atopic dermatitis and bronchial asthma in developed countries represents a major public health issue. Vaccination strategies are currently considered to prevent or treat these diseases. The IMI currently collaborates with GSK Biologicals to develop vaccines based on ligands of Toll-like receptors inducing regulatory circuits that inhibit allergic responses. The strategy used was reviewed in a recent paper published in
Clinical Experimental Immunology, the official journal of the
British Society for Immunology, dedicated to translational immunology.
