Bénédicte Danis, PhD student, recently received a Grant from the
Wiener-Anspach Foundation, whose aim is to promote educational relationships between the
Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Universities of
Oxford and
Cambridge, UK, by offering Research Fellowships and Postgraduate Scholarships, to pursue a post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Alison Simmons at the
Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (
University of Oxford, United Kingdom). During her PhD conducted under the supervision of Dominique De Wit and Fabienne Willems, Bénédicte Danis identified a new molecular defect in plasmacytoid dendritic from human newborns. This defect results in an impaired production of interferon-alpha, an important mechanism of host defense against viral infections.
